Astaxanthin (ATX) administration increases survival. Mice were treated with DMSO or ATX (50 mg/kg) by gavage for 3 days before exposure to a lethal dose (7.2 Gy) of total body irradiation (TBI) and then continuously for 7 days after TBI.
