Fig. 1

Common genes enriched in hiChondrocytes and juvenile chondrocytes include distinct ECM factors and the cell-surface marker CD24. (a) The  top five enriched pathways upon network analyses of genes were found to be 2-fold or higher in expression upon comparison with adult chondrocytes in hiChondrocytes (265 total genes) and in juvenile chondrocytes (491 genes). (b) The top 20 genes out of a total of 71 common genes found to be enriched in both hiChondrocytes and juvenile chondrocytes when compared to the adult chondrocytes. Array data consist of three independent donors for each chondrocyte type. (c) Real-time PCR shows gene expression levels of CD24, CHRDL1, CLDN1, and MFAP4 in hiChondrocyte and juvenile chondrocyte samples relative to adult chondrocytes. Data represent five independent hiChondrocyte samples and four donors each for juvenile and adult chondrocytes. AC (adult chondrocytes), hiC human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived chondrocytes (hiChondrocytes), JC (juvenile chondrocytes)
