Transplant tissues receiving hepatocytes from the livers of 129 mice (a) showed stronger CD3+ T-lymphocyte infiltration and a more severe inflammatory response than those receiving hepatocytes derived from ESCs (b). At the same time, lower levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-2 and higher levels of inhibitory cytokines including IL-10 and TGF-β were seen in transplant tissues receiving hepatocytes derived from ESCs compared with those receiving hepatocytes from the livers of 129 mice (c).
