Ex vivo analysis of the freshly isolated cells before in vitro culture expansion. An aliquot of freshly isolated cells was used to determine the proportion of the mesenchymal fraction, as defined as the CD45/CD34/CD14/CD19-negative single live cells (a), and to determine the viability of the cells after collagenase digestion (b). The proportion of CD45/CD34/CD14/CD19-negative single live cells was significantly lower in OA patients compared to OP patients and controls (73.2% vs. 93.2%, 91.0%; p = 0.031, 0.013, respectively), while no differences between the tested groups were observed for the bone-derived MSCs (a). The viabilities of the freshly isolated cells were similar between these groups (b)
