Histological analysis POD 14. Fourteen days after hindlimb ischemia, animals with sham (a) and intramuscular injection of MPC (b) demonstrated distinct signs of regeneration. In animals with cell injections H&E staining showed cellular aggregates surrounding the co-injected polystyrene beads (white and black arrows and white circles). In comparison to the observed cell piles on POD 2, however, they tend to be less dense. Masson-Goldner staining (bottom rows right picture) revealed that neither cell nor sham injections lead to scar formation or tissue fibrosis.
