Vitamin D3 promotes apoptotic cell death. Intestinal organoids were treated with various concentrations (10, 50, and 100 nM) of vitamin D3. The percentage of viability was evaluated by the reduction of the MTT reagent (a). Apoptotic cells were identified using the TUNEL assay (red fluorescence) (b) and immunofluorescence staining for cleaved caspase-3 (green fluorescence) (c).
