Schematic representation of the experimental design. Umbilical cord blood CD34+ cells were expanded in a co-culture system using a mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) feeder layer (FL) from different sources for 7 days. MSC were previously expanded using medium with either FBS or HPL. UCB cells were characterized by immunophenotyping and in vitro clonogenic assays.
