CEFFE reduced the intracellular production of ROS and expression of oxidative stress-related enzymes in murine primary chondrocytes. A, B Flow cytometry analysis revealed that CEFFE counteracted the intracellular production of ROS induced by IL-1β + TNF-α. C, D Fluorescence microscopy observation of DCHF fluorescence intensity showed a similar trend to that of flow cytometry. E qRT-PCR analysis showed that CEFFE did not affect the expression of oxidative stress-related enzymes (COX-2 and iNOS) in the absence of IL-1β + TNF-α but decreased their IL-1β + TNF-α-induced expression in a dose-dependent manner. F qRT-PCR analysis showed that CEFFE had no effect on the expression of oxidative stress-related enzymes (COX-2 and iNOS) in the absence of IL-1β + TNF-α, but decreased their IL-1β + TNF-α-induced expression. COX-2 and iNOS were from different gels. Please refer to Additional file 1: Fig. S5 for original images. Scale bars are noted on the right bottom corner of each picture. Data represent the mean ± SD (n = 3 per group). *p < 0.05; **p < 0.01; ns, no significant difference between groups
