Influence of the BMP pathway on load-induced alterations of ECM synthesis. A MSC-seeded osteochondral units pre-cultured for 21 days were treated with 100 ng/mL recombinant BMP6 starting 1 h before loading, during loading (or free-swelling) and during 24 h of radiolabel incorporation. Changes in 35S-sulfate and 3H-proline incorporation per DNA are depicted relative to the free-swelling control set to 1 (n = 3 donors).
