Schematic illustration of the mechanism by which ER stress is involved in pulmonary fibrosis by modulating myofibroblast differentiation of LR-MSC. On the one hand, ER stress during pulmonary fibrosis dampens the alveolar repair function of LR-MSC; on the other hand, it facilitates the activation of the TGFβ/SMAD signaling pathway and promotes the myofibroblast differentiation of LR-MSC to produce more ECM.
