Composition of the jaw bone and periodontal tissue. A tooth is composed of enamel, dentin, dental pulp, and cementum, in which dentin and dental pulp form the dentin–pulp complex. Periodontal tissue is composed of cementum, the periodontal ligament, gingiva, and alveolar bone, in which cementum and the periodontal ligament form the periodontal–ligament cementum complex. The jaw bone is divided into alveolar bone and basal bone. Schematic created with Microsoft PowerPoint
