Model of the spatiotemporal autocrine and paracrine pathways regulating blastulation and neurulation. Based on our current knowledge and the data presented in this article regarding the hormonal regulation of early embryogenesis, we present a model of (a) the time course for the induction of embryoid bodies and neuroectodermal rosettes by hCG and P4, and (b) putative autocrine and endocrine signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, steroidogenesis, and differentiation of the blastocyst and primitive neural tube.
