Expression of extracellular matrix proteins by UCX® spheroids. Immunostaining of representative cryosections of UCX® grown in three-dimensional culture demonstrate the expression of relevant extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules. Within the spheroid, laminin and collagen IV define the basal lamina surrounding UCX® which is in close association with the ECM proteins fibronectin and collagen I. A similar ECM composition was observed irrespectively of the culture duration when considering the analysed time-points of day 3, 9 and 11. Scale bar - 100 μm; n = 3.
