Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) infusion is safe and effective with no tumorigenesis detected during 3 months of observation. a At 3 months post-transplantation, serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels in the MSC10min group showed no difference compared with the sham group. Results are presented as mean ± SEM (N = 6 for each group). b Liver grafts were harvested for histological examination and no tumorigenesis was detected. Haematoxylin and eosin staining of grafts showed relatively normal hepatocellular morphology, cell infiltration, and mild hyperplasia around the portal area, which may represent a response to ischaemic biliary injury.
