Bone mass was significantly reduced in 12-month-old mice. Three-month-old and 12-month-old C57BL/6 mice were used to evaluate the bone mass. a The μCT 3D image analysis of the fourth lumbar vertebra (L4) demonstrated an apparent bone loss in 12-month-old mice compared to 3-month-old mice. The quantitative analysis showed that bone volume (BV) and bone mineral density (BMD) were significantly decreased in 12-month-old mice compared to 3-month-old mice (b, c, n = 6). *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, unpaired Student’s t test (3-month-old mice vs. 12-month-old mice)
