Diagrammatic summary. After transplantation of Lenti-BDNF/Dlx2-NSCs into a brainstem infarct lesion, overexpression of BDNF improves the survival of NSCs and promotes differentiation of NSCs into neurons, presumably by autocrine action, and the overexpression of Dlx2 boosts the differentiation of NSCs into GABAergic neurons. Graft-derived GABAergic neurons establish synaptic connections with host neurons and reconstruct neural circuits
