Macrophages can be induced to an activated inflammatory phenotype by exosomes secreted by MSCs/TSCs. Exosomes regulate the inflammation process after tendon injury to facilitate proper healing through M1 down-regulation and M2 up-regulation, which alleviate inflammation and determine whether repair or degeneration will occur [46,47,48].
